Restore the smile with porcelain veneers

For some patients, a beautiful smile does not come naturally. Certain genetics and predisposition can leave patients with imperfect smiles. In many cases, these imperfections can be easily addressed with the use of dental restorations used in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. David S. Frey in Beverly Hills, CA is excited to offer a range of aesthetic services, including the popular solution of porcelain veneers!
Understanding porcelain veneers
Our dentists describe porcelain veneers as facings. These facings are fabricated from ceramic and made to match the size, shape, and color of the existing teeth. They are then bonded onto the front of a prepared tooth to disguise a variety of issues, including:
- Permanent staining
- Gaps between teeth
- Unusual shape and size
The patient’s tooth is prepared with the removal of a thin portion of enamel taken from the front of the tooth. Impressions are made and used by a dental ceramist to fabricate the final veneer. The dentist then bonds the veneer over the tooth when it is completed, leaving the patients with a brand new smile!
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Most patients who care properly for their porcelain veneers will enjoy their restorations for a decade or longer. Patients can ask their dentist the best ways to maintain their veneers for long-term repair of the smile. In most cases, patients who care for their smile properly will maintain these restorations for several years. Porcelain veneers are not reversible, due to the removal of enamel prior to placement. Because of this, when veneers break or need to be replaced, patients will often have another veneer made. Our team evaluates restorations at each dental visit to ensure they are intact and functioning as desired.
