Premier Beverly Hills cosmetic dentistry provider Dr. David S. Frey believes that quality dental care contributes to positive oral and general health. As a skilled and well-educated cosmetic and restorative dentist, Dr. Frey practices neuromuscular dentistry, which emphasizes the importance of the position of jaw, teeth and surrounding tissues. Because of his focus on this area of dentistry, Dr. Frey is able to successfully treat Beverly Hills TMJ patients, who suffer from persistent pain due to jaw misalignment.

TMJ disorder is a painful condition which results when the temporomandibular joint, the main joint in the mouth, is overworked or misaligned. Beverly Hills TMJ sufferers often experience headaches, oral pain, neck pain, and difficult opening and closing the mouth. Many patients, however, attribute these symptoms to stress and are unaware that their discomfort is treatable with TMJ treatment at Dr. Frey's Beverly Hills dental practice.

Dr. Frey separates TMJ treatment into two phases. Phase one will cure your symptoms of TMJ. Utilizing computer technology, including a TENS machine, Dr. Frey can located the most relaxed position of the jaw (physiological resting position) by "de-programming" the muscles. After identifying the most relaxed position of the jaw, Dr. Frey captures that position with his dental "play-doh" or molding material, and realigns the patient's bite to that exact position. Patients wear this new orthotic and begin to rehabilitate. Dr. Frey's orthotic is unique, and not like your typical splint. Instead, it mimics that appearance of the natural teeth and sits atop the existing teeth. Nobody can tell that you are wearing it and speech is uninterrupted. This allows your muscles to acclimate to their new, healthy position. Almost immediately patients will notice that headaches, back pain, neck pain, ringing in the ears, vertigo, and many other neuromuscular symptoms will vanish.
Once patients have adjusted to the new jaw position, phase two of TMJ treatment begins. Dr. Frey works with patients to help them choose the dental treatment that is right for them in order to sustain the results of their TMJ treatment. Even patients who have had extensive dental work in their mouths or individuals with worn or chipped teeth can attain relief from TMJ disorder. Dr. Frey can make recommendations for treatment, as part of a full mouth rehabilitation plan. This may include options such as mouth guards, orthodontic treatments or other oral therapies. In addition, Dr. Frey may recommend Beverly Hills dental implants to replace missing teeth in some patients, and therefore prevent bone recession or jaw misalignment. Patients can also choose to gradually reduce the use of the splint until full results are achieved. Dr. Frey has successfully treated hundreds of TMJ patients over the past 20 years.
Comprehensive TMJ treatment at Dr. Frey's dental practice can alleviate persistent discomfort, and promote a patient's overall health.
